Shore Winter Food Drive
Shifting the dial on food insecurity on the Shore.
Together.
The Shore Winter Food Drive is back again for 2026!
By working together, no single organisation or church has to do everything or have all the expertise.
It’s a win for everyone.
Hard-working organisations working to address food insecurity get much-needed support for the programmes they run.
Organisations and churches without the capacity to run a food programme are given a simple way to join the cause.
Struggling whānau and individuals get a bit of extra help this winter.
How you can help
-
Promote the food drive
Spread the word far and wide for people to donate approved items. This might look like sharing to your organisation’s social media platforms, or your email list, or putting a poster on your notice board.
-
Collect food
Sign up your organisation or church as a drop-off point for food items. If you have space in your building to collect boxes, this is a really easy way to help out.
-
Transport food
Pick up food from collection points and transport it to distribution points on scheduled dates.
-
Distribute food
To families in need. Sign up if you have an existing food donation programme at your organisation or church.

The Good Works School Lunch Kit Programme
Providing lunches for hungry North Shore kids
Another fantastic initiative is the School Lunch Kit Programme by The Good Works Trust.
The Good Works Trust supplies 61+ “make at home” lunch kits per week. These are shared across 9 schools on the Shore, which decide which families need them most. The most basic kit yields 17 lunches, accommodating three children for five days with a little extra. The kits enable a parent or older child to make lunches at home. This creates dignity and buy-in, reducing demand for food parcels and improving learning outcomes.
How you can help
Lunch Kits are the most expensive programme they run. Donations rarely provide 61 of any of the items required on a weekly basis, so they purchase them at a cost of around $800-$900 per week. Any savings anywhere they can make them will help maintain the programme.
Sponsor a week
$900 pays for a week’s worth of lunches for 61 + whānau
Sponsor a term
$9000 just about covers a whole school term - 10 weeks of lunches distributed towhere they are most needed
Donate 1 item
Donate a term’s worth of brown bags (39c each) or jam or muesli bars...
To donate, please use the following account:
Account name: The Good Works Charitable Trust
ASB number: 12-3035-0762738-01
Reference: Lunch
They are a registered charity and can provide giving receipts.
